GMC, Srinagar marks 'World Sight Day' with Comprehensive Eye Care Campaign

 

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 11 (KNS): In recognition of 'World Sight Day 2024,' the Ophthalmology Department, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, hosted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program in line with this year's theme "Children, Love Your Eyes."

The CME aimed to understand the causes and burden of Childhood Blindness and emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach and timely interventions.

The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal and Dean, GMC Srinagar.

Prof. Junaid S. Wani, Head of the Ophthalmology Department, and faculty members graced the occasion. Senior Residents and Postgraduate students of the department attended the CME.

Dr. Shahnawaz Shafi, Associate Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, concluded the seminar with a take-home message emphasizing early diagnosis and regular eye check-ups in preventing avoidable childhood blindness.

The Department of Ophthalmology, GMC Srinagar, encourages everyone to prioritize eye health through regular check-ups and timely interventions. Addressing childhood blindness requires a comprehensive approach, including preventive healthcare, early treatment, and access to education and rehabilitation services.
