Srinagar, March 25 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has dismissed Gulzar Ahmad Dar, a Jamadar in the Irrigation Division Shopian, from service with immediate effect following his involvement in a narcotics case.
The dismissal order, issued under Article 311(2) of the Constitution of India, follows the recovery of 9.9 kg of poppy straw-like substance from Dar’s residence during a police raid in 2023. An FIR (No. 21/2023) under the NDPS Act was registered against him at Police Station Zainapora, and forensic tests confirmed the substance as poppy straw. Dar was arrested on April 1, 2023, and remained in judicial custody for a month before being suspended.

The inquiry found his actions in violation of the J&K Employees Conduct Rules, 1971, and deemed them a “grave societal risk.”
Chief Engineer, I&FC Kashmir, supported the dismissal, citing damage to public trust and government integrity. The order, ratified by Financial Commissioner Shaleen Kabra IAS, bars Dar from future government employment.
Authorities, including the DGP, Home Department, and District Magistrate Shopian, have been informed to ensure compliance with the decision. (KNS)
