Govt Must Enforce Protection Act to Safeguard Religious Sites: AIP

Srinagar, November 28(KNS): The Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) has expressed deep concern over the recent controversy surrounding the Ajmer Dargah, describing it as a divisive and hate-driven issue that endangers the secular and spiritual ethos of the nation.

The AIP has condemned the rising trend of targeting mosques and dargahs, stating that such actions are detrimental to the unity and progress of the country. “Every second day, we witness groups laying claims over mosques, dargahs and other religious establishments. This is not only shocking but also dangerous for the harmony of our diverse society. Ajmer Dargah, with its 850-year-old legacy of peace and spirituality, should be above such baseless disputes,” said AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi.

AIP Chief Spokesperson further said that Party’s State Secretary Sheikh Ashiq had spoken to the Gad-I-Nasheen of Ajmer Shareef Dargah, Haji Syed Salman Chishti, regarding the matter. During their discussion, Sheikh Ashiq emphasized that this issue transcends the Muslim community in Ajmer and is of particular concern to South Asia as a whole. “Hazrat Khawaja Mohiuddin Chishti is revered not only by Muslims but also by countless non-Muslims across the region.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThis controversy has hurt the sentiments of non-Muslim believers as well, showcasing the wider impact of such divisive actions,” Sheikh Ashiq said.

Inam Un Nabi further said that there is already a Protection Act of 2002 which clearly bars the claims or conversion of religious places in the country. He also pointed out that the Supreme Court of India has denounced such claims for conversion of religious places, with the Babri Masjid-Ayodhya Temple dispute being the only exception, due to its pending legal disputes before 1947. “The government must enforce existing laws to prevent these baseless claims from destabilizing the harmony of our society. It is crucial that religious sites like the Ajmer Dargah remain untouched by such divisive forces,” he added.

AIP reiterated that Hazrat Khawaja Mohiuddin Chishti’s shrine has long stood as a beacon of peace, unity and spiritual solace for people of all faiths. The party called for collective action to protect such symbols of harmony, urging citizens to reject divisive narratives and work toward safeguarding the pluralistic identity of India.(KNS).
