Handwara March 15 (KNS): Residents of Guloora in Handwara have raised concerns over the erratic transport services on the Guloora-Handwara route, accusing local transporters of operating at their sheer will and convenience, causing severe inconvenience to the public.

The aggrieved residents said they are forced to wait for hours to reach their destinations, with school-going children mainly facing the brunt. They alleged that despite paying high fares, transport services remain irregular, forcing many to walk long distances.

“Students are charged ?20 for just a few kilometers, which is unfair. Despite paying hefty fares, transport remains unavailable, and in most cases, we have to walk 1.5 kilometers to board a vehicle,” said a local student.

Farooq Ahmad, a resident, said, “Transporters take their vehicles to Handwara and do not return, leaving passengers stranded.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

“Overloading is also a major issue, posing a serious threat to lives. When questioned, drivers often misbehave with passengers,” he said.

The residents have urged authorities to take strict action against the transporters to ensure regular and affordable services.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the local Transport Stand acknowledged the issue, stating that many drivers are non-cooperative.

Responding to the grievance ARTO Kupwara assured appropriate action to address the matter. “A team will be sent to corroborate the facts on ground, and if required all necessary measures will be taken to alleviate the sufferings of people,” he said.(KNS)
