Srinagar, Dec 16 (KNS): The Government of Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with universities and agricultural experts, has developed a comprehensive roadmap under the Holistic Agriculture Development Plan (HADP).
This initiative is aligned with the vision of the Honorable Prime Minister to double farmers’ income, with a target to triple it by leveraging modern agricultural practices and technology.
Speaking on the significance of HADP, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Kashmir, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, highlighted the critical role of technology in achieving these ambitious goals. “To ensure farmers achieve double or triple income, we must adopt advanced technologies,” he stated.
Addressing the challenges posed by the recent dry season and the anticipated water scarcity in the coming years, Prof. Ganai stressed the importance of sustainable farming practices. He emphasized micro-irrigation as a transformative concept to make agriculture more efficient and resilient.
The Vice-Chancellor also noted the significant contribution of agriculture and horticulture to the Union Territory’s GDP, expressing optimism that their economic impact will double through these initiatives.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“Horticulture and agriculture are vital to J&K’s economy, and with projects like HADP and additional government measures, their role will grow further,” he told KNS.
A new project launched by the J&K Government aims to address gaps within HADP, ensuring a more robust and integrated approach to agricultural development. Prof. Ganai commended these efforts, adding that SKUAST-Kashmir is now recognized as a national leader in agricultural innovation, serving as a model for other institutions.
Expressing gratitude for his two-year tenure extension granted by the J&K Government, Prof. Ganai reiterated his commitment to advancing agricultural research and empowering farmers in the region.
