Srinagar, July 05 (KNS): Lieutenant Governor J&K Manoj Sinha Wednesday said there has been a rise in mental ailments and drug addiction related cases post Covid era in J&K.
The LG Sinha assured full support to Health & Medical Education (H&ME) Department and Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS) for addressing the issues effectively.
LG Sinha said that the J&K administration has improved health care infrastructure in past few years and modern technologies have been rolled out to save time and energy of health professionals so that they will ensure best possible treatment to the patients.
LG Sinha while addressing the Health Conclave at SKICC in Srinagar here said as per study done by IMHANS, post Covid19 pandemic, there has been a spurt in mental ailments which include common disorders, severe mental disorders and drug addiction among younger generation. “The UT administration extends its full support to the H&ME and IMHANS and health professionals to retreat the youth from vicious cycle of drug abuse,” LG as per KNS said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
While emphasizing on mass awareness programs, the LG Sinha urged the H&ME department to flag off massive awareness campaigns at Panchayat levels to aware youth about repercussions of drug addiction.
He said the Memorandum of Union signed by IMHANS with Tata Institute will definitely help in a big way to counsel youth suffering from mental disorders.
Speaking on health infrastructure, the LG Sinha said the J&K administration has started two new Cancer Institute each in Kashmir and Jammu where special treatment to the fatal diseases will be provided. The patients admitting there will also be counseled, he said.
“After 2019, the J&K has got 7 medical colleges, 2 AIIMS, 8 nursing colleges, 2 cancer institute’s and 2 bone & joint hospitals with an aim to provide better healthcare services to people of Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
