High security plan finalised for Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency ahead of Polls tomorrow

Srinagar, Apr 18 ( KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Police has meticulously finalized its security arrangements for the Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency, which is poised to head to the polls in the first phase tomorrow, April 19.
Led by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range, a comprehensive security blueprint has been laid out to ensure the safety and integrity of the electoral process.
News agency KNS reported that every facet of security has been meticulously addressed, including the fortification of polling booths based on their sensitivity, safeguarding the strong room, and securing the collection and distribution centers of electronic voting machines (EVMs). Transportation logistics, route planning, and the strategic deployment of central paramilitary forces have all been meticulously planned.
Additionally, a robust communication strategy has been devised to manage law and order, with standard operating procedures (SOPs) established to address any exigencies that may arise.
Surveillance efforts have been intensified to monitor the activities of overground workers (OGWs), surrendered and released terrorists, as well as individuals with a history of disruptive behavior.
In light of the potential misuse of social media platforms, a vigilant eye will be kept to prevent any untoward incidents. Furthermore, meticulous monitoring of polling party movements, accommodation arrangements for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and security protocols for public meetings, processions, and rallies have been put in place.
Special emphasis has been placed on thwarting subversive activities by anti-national elements, with strengthened police control rooms (PCRs) enhancing reporting channels.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelWith paramilitary forces deployed in significant numbers across the Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency, the stage is set for a crucial day of polling, where over 16.23 lakh voters will determine the fate of 12 candidates.
The constituency, spanning five mountainous districts including Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Udhampur, and Kathua, presents unique logistical challenges. A total of 2,637 polling stations have been established, with some located in the border regions with Pakistan and others in remote mountainous terrain.
Key contenders in the electoral race include BJP candidate and Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Congress candidate Chaudhary Lal Singh, and DPAP nominee GM Saroori. To ensure accessibility, paramilitary forces and polling staff have been airlifted to remote areas via helicopters.
The Udhampur Parliamentary Constituency boasts a diverse electorate of 16,23,195 eligible voters, reflecting the inclusive nature of the democratic process. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has deployed 3,658 ballot units, 3,570 control units, and 3,636 VVPATs (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) to uphold the accuracy and integrity of the electoral process.
In an innovative initiative aimed at enhancing public engagement, a Model Polling Station has been established near the Indo-Pakistan International Border in Hiranagar, Kathua district. Decorated with Tricolor balloons and lush flower plants, this station serves as a vibrant symbol of democratic participation, welcoming voters to experience a festival-like atmosphere as they exercise their franchise.(KNS
