Srinagar, Nov 07(KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on Thursday rejected the BJP's demand for either rolling back the special status resolution passed by the House or stepping down.
He stated that if the BJP did not have confidence in him, they should move a no-confidence motion.
Rather criticized the BJP for its protests and "sloganeering" and said he could not tolerate members entering the Well of the House and stepping on the national emblem placed on the Assembly Secretary's chair.
He explained that the Speaker does not have the power to undo any resolution passed by the House. Only the House itself can reverse a decision.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
On Wednesday, the Assembly passed a resolution calling on the Centre to restore Jammu and Kashmir's special status, which was revoked in August 2019. While the resolution was supported by local parties, the BJP protested and demanded its rollback.
BJP members continued their protests for two consecutive days, asking the Speaker to either retract the resolution or resign.
Rather responded by advising the BJP to bring a no-confidence motion if they had no faith in him. He condemned the BJP’s behavior, saying it was inappropriate for them to disrupt the House with slogans.(KNS).
