Srinagar, May 11 (KNS): The Drug Control Department on Saturday reported the seizure of an illegally transported consignment of ‘Tramadol’ at the Srinagar airport.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that acting on information provided by the Central Enforcement (Airport Wing) department, the Drug Control Department, led by Joint Drugs Controller Irfana Ahmad and Sales Tax Officer Irshad Assad Jan, confiscated 1080 tablets of Tramadol. These drugs were being brought in through unregulated channels.

Tramadol is a prescription opioid pain medication that poses risks if misused by drug addicts.

The Drug Control Department is currently investigating the source and intended destination of the seized shipment. This seizure is part of the department's ongoing efforts to combat the illegal sale and distribution of prescription drugs, he said.

In the past, the department has collaborated with the Sales Tax Department at Srinagar Airport to seize similar consignments and hold those responsible accountable, he added.(KNS)
