Srinagar March 19 (KNS): Income Tax Department, Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, led by Lal Chand (IRS), Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Amritsar, and Vikram Sahay (IRS) Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, UT of J&K and Ladakh, along with Shakil Ahmad Ganie Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar Office, organized an interactive outreach programme with the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) and other stakeholders.
The programme aimed to foster collaboration between the Income Tax Department and the business community to address key issues faced by taxpayers in the region. The PHDCCI was represented by Himayu Wani, Co-Chair, PHDCCI Kashmir, along with CA Anil Sharma, Madina Mi, and Iqbal Fayaz Jan, Deputy Director.
During the meeting, discussions centered on conducting joint outreach programmes to educate and assist taxpayers in collaboration with the Income Tax Department and PHDCCI. The Chamber highlighted several challenges faced by taxpayers, including issues related to tax demands from 2019, complications arising during the Covid-19 pandemic, and difficulties in tax compliance due to frequent internet outages in the region.
The PHDCCI also urged the Income Tax Department to adopt a more restrained and empathetic approach regarding account seizures, notices, and recoveries, emphasizing the need for a taxpayer-friendly environment to support economic growth and compliance.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Lal Chand (IRS), Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Amritsar, assured the stakeholders that the department is committed to addressing the concerns raised and will work closely with PHDCCI to organize more such outreach programmes. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the department and the business community to ensure a seamless and taxpayer-friendly experience.
Vikram Sahay (IRS), Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, UT of J&K and Ladakh, reiterated the department’s commitment to resolving taxpayer grievances and simplifying compliance processes. He acknowledged the unique challenges faced by taxpayers in the region and assured that the department would take necessary steps to mitigate these issues.
Himayu Wani, Co-Chair, PHDCCI Kashmir, expressed gratitude to the Income Tax Department for organizing the outreach programme and providing a platform for open dialogue. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in building trust and fostering a collaborative relationship between the department and the business community.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to continue working together to address taxpayer concerns and enhance compliance through regular interaction and awareness programmes.(KNS)
