Srinagar, Oct 21(KNS): The government on Monday announced that India and China had reached an agreement to resume patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, leading to disengagement.
The announcement comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia for the 16th BRICS Summit, where he may hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Over the past few weeks, Indian and Chinese diplomatic and military officials have been in regular contact through various forums. As a result of these discussions, an agreement has been reached on patrolling arrangements along the LAC in the India-China border area, leading to disengagement and a resolution of issues that arose in 2020, said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called the development a significant breakthrough. "Frictions happen between large countries, but this is a major breakthrough," he said.
Indian and Chinese militaries have been engaged in a stand-off since May 2020. India seeks to restore the situation to pre-2020 conditions at the LAC.(KNS).
