Srinagar, June 25(KNS): With the announcement of a ceasefire in the Israel-Iran conflict, the Embassy of India in Tehran has begun gradually winding down its evacuation efforts that were launched during the recent military escalation.
The large-scale operation, named Operation Sindhu, has facilitated the safe return of more than 2,000 Indian nationals from Iran since hostilities intensified earlier this month.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Indian Embassy in Tehran confirmed that evacuation activities are being scaled back in a phased manner following the easing of tensions in the region.
A significant number of those evacuated under the operation were Indian students, particularly from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
On June 18, at least 90 of the first 110 evacuees were reported to be students from J&K.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAnother group of over 200 students from the region was part of a subsequent evacuation flight from Mashhad on June 21.
Operation Sindhu was launched in early June after the security situation in Iran deteriorated due to direct confrontations with Israel.
The Indian government, through its embassies in the region and coordination with local authorities, mobilized swift efforts to locate and bring back Indian citizens, prioritizing students and other vulnerable groups.
The Ministry of External Affairs is continuing to monitor the situation and remains in contact with those who are still in Iran. Emergency services and helplines remain operational, although the embassy has indicated that regular consular services will gradually resume as stability returns.(KNS).
