Srinagar, Feb 8 (KNS): In a significant move to ensure public health and hygiene, the Drug and Food Control Organisation conducted an intensive food safety inspection drive at Jehangir Chowk and HSHS in Srinagar. The drive was led by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, Yameen ul Nabi, and focused on roadside eateries and Kashmiri snack stalls.
The primary objective of the inspection was to enforce compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) and to ensure that food vendors maintain proper sanitary and hygienic conditions. The team inspected multiple food stalls, scrutinizing their food handling, storage, and preparation practices to ensure they met the prescribed safety standards.
During the operation, food safety officials educated vendors on the critical importance of hygiene and sanitation. They were instructed to implement necessary measures to protect prepared food from environmental contaminants and pests. Officials issued stern warnings, stating that failure to comply with these regulations would result in the immediate cessation of their business operations under the FSSA.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Additionally, food business operators involved in the preparation of ready-to-eat meals were directed to undergo pest control procedures at their premises. Authorities also emphasized that temporary food stalls should not be set up near or over drains, as such locations pose serious contamination risks and health hazards. Vendors failing to adhere to these directives will face legal action under the relevant food safety laws.
The inspection drive is part of the Drug and Food Control Organisation’s ongoing efforts to maintain high food safety standards across Srinagar. The organisation remains committed to protecting public health and fostering greater awareness about food hygiene among food business operators.
Residents and consumers have welcomed this initiative, expressing their support for stricter monitoring of food vendors. With foodborne diseases being a major public health concern, such drives are crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of the people of Srinagar. (KNS)
