Baramulla, Nov 02 (KNS): Member Legislative Assembly from Wagoora-Kreeri, Irfan Hafiz called for a phased and reasonable approach to recent electricity bill increases.
Citing concerns over sudden and steep hikes that have affected households across the region, Hafiz said that last year, someone paying 300 rupees suddenly saw their bill rise to over 2000 rupees. "We cannot enforce such hikes without understanding the financial strain on our people.”
During the meeting, Hafiz voiced his commitment to working with officials for the welfare of residents, urging the Power Development Department (PDD) to adopt a balanced approach, especially for those in rural areas where these adjustments have hit hardest.
“The approach should be lenient and justified, ensuring that any enhancements are manageable for the people,” he said, adding that an abrupt rise in monthly bills is "intolerable and unbearable."
Beyond the discussion on power bills, Hafiz highlighted the meeting's primary objective: ensuring that all essential services, including public health, education, roads, and clean drinking water, remain a priority.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He reiterated the importance of each meeting to address people’s genuine needs, saying, “Our goal is to overcome the challenges our people face by working as a team, identifying gaps, and addressing them for the greater good.”
Acknowledging the hard work and cooperation of government officials, Hafiz praised their commitment but also promised to address any instances of negligence. “Our officials are largely dedicated, and we will work to ensure that those who fall short of their duties are held accountable,” he added.
Hafiz also encouraged regular feedback and close coordination between his office and the officials, pledging to remain accessible and responsive to the needs of his constituency.
“With a popular government in place, people have high expectations, and we are here to meet them. We will leave no stone unturned in meeting their expectations,” Hafiz concluded.(KNS)
