Srinagar, Nov 25 (KNS): Tariq Hameed Karra, the President of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, asked the central government on Monday to fulfill its pledge of restoring statehood and constitutional guarantees to Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing reporters at the party office, Karra highlighted that this was not a protest, but a principled demand based on commitments made by the BJP government in 2019. He stated that the rights and guarantees taken away in 2019 should be restored, as promised by the government.
Karra stressed the urgency of restoring statehood, pointing out that the central government had made repeated assurances, including a statement by Prime Minister Modi in Srinagar on September 19, but these promises have yet to be fulfilled.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He expressed disappointment over the lack of progress, calling it a disregard for the hopes and democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "This message from Srinagar is being ignored," he said, criticizing the government's dismissive attitude.
Karra also referred to the Supreme Court's directions, urging the immediate conduct of elections and the restoration of statehood. "If you can't keep your promises, at least respect the Supreme Court's orders," he said.
When asked about recent comments from Omar Abdullah, Karra declined to comment, stating that he preferred to focus on the matter at hand. (KNS)
