J&K Revenue Digitization Nears Completion, 1 Lakh Errors Being Fix: Govt

Srinagar, Mar 13 (KNS): The government of Jammu and Kashmir on Thurusday informed int assembly that the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is on the brink of completing the digitization of its revenue records, with 6,838 out of 6,850 revenue villages having their latest Jamabandi (land records) digitized, according to a recent government reply to an un-starred legislative question. However, over 1 lakh errors—primarily typographical—have been flagged during verification and are being rectified through the JK Revenue Plus portal.

The disclosure came in response to a query tabled by  Nizam-Ud-Din Bhat, , who sought updates on the digitization drive and infrastructure for patwaries (revenue officials). The Revenue Department, in its reply, emphasized that while digitization is nearly complete, the process of error correction and finalizing records is ongoing.

The government also addressed concerns about facilities for patwaries, stating that they have been provided mobile tablets for digitized record-keeping and service delivery. Most patwariesoperate from Patwar Khanas or government buildings, though dedicated record rooms in Halgas (revenue circles) remain absent.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelInstead, records are maintained at district and tehsil headquarters, with modernization plans tied to funding under the Government of India’s Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP).

In Bandipora constituency, all 15 Patwar Halgas have been equipped with tablets for online services. However, no separate record rooms exist at the Halga level, as records are managed centrally at higher administrative tiers.

While the digitization push marks significant progress, the detection of over 1 lakh errors underscores the complexity of transitioning from manual to digital systems. The Revenue Department acknowledged that modernization of record rooms and Halga-level infrastructure will require additional funds under the DILRMP scheme.

The reply was signed by the Minister-in-Charge of Revenue and the Under Secretary of the Revenue Department, reaffirming the government’s commitment to “transparent and efficient land record management.” (KNS)
