J&K Will Regain Statehood as Promised: HM Amit Shah

New Delhi, Mar 29 (KNS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir will regain statehood as promised, though he did not specify any timeline for its restoration.

Speaking at the Times Now Summit 2025 on Friday night, Shah stated that the central government stands by its assurance. “We have given the assurance that statehood will be restored. From the very beginning, we have said that statehood would be given. But it can’t be disclosed when it will be given at a public forum,” he said when asked about the timeline.

Shah also highlighted the peaceful conduct of last year’s assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as a major milestone.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“This was the first election in Kashmir after 40 years in which there was no re-polling in any place. Not a single tear gas or bullet was fired. Sixty percent of people exercised their franchise, this is a huge change,” he stated.

In 2019, the government abrogated Article 370 and bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories. At the time, Shah had assured Parliament that statehood would be restored at an appropriate time.

The statement comes amid growing demands from political parties in Jammu and Kashmir for the restoration of full statehood. (KNS)
