Srinagar, Oct 14 (KNS): Brigadier Anil Gupta, a prominent member of the JKCA administration said Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) is making significant strides in the promotion and development of cricket in J&K with recent achievements showcasing its potential.
Highlighting the association's recent success, Brigadier Gupta noted the return of Ranji Trophy matches to Kashmir after an eight-year hiatus. He stated, “Two Ranji matches are happening here, and one match is scheduled in Jammu. We are striving to host as many matches as possible to give local viewers a chance to see top-tier cricket.”
The performance of local players such as Shubham Khujuria, who recently scored a double century, and Rasik Salaam, who is expected to join the emerging Indian team, reflects the region's cricketing talent.
Brigadier Gupta emphasized that there is no shortage of talent in Jammu & Kashmir and acknowledged the importance of enhancing grassroots infrastructure to nurture this talent further.
The JKCA has also implemented the Talent Hunt program, which aims to identify and train young cricketers in the region. He mentioned that the association has conducted multiple training camps across different age groups to maximize opportunities for young athletes.
“Resources are being allocated to ensure that we refine our selection process and provide adequate training for all aspiring players,” he told KNS.
Additionally, the JKCA has proposed plans to upgrade local stadiums to international standards, further facilitating the development of cricket in the region.
Brigadier Gupta reassured parents and aspiring cricketers that selections are made transparently and fairly, emphasizing that only the most deserving players will make it to the final teams.
“We are committed to ensuring that every player is given a fair chance, and there are no biases in our selection process,” he affirmed.
Brigadier Gupta also stressed the importance of discipline and self-regulation for players aspiring to reach the top levels of the sport. “Self-discipline is a virtue that can help players achieve great heights in their careers,” he added. (KNS)
