Srinagar, Aug 5 (KNS): Several politicians claimed on Monday that they were placed under house arrest amid heightened security on the fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
The leaders include JKNC chief Farooq Abdullah, JKPC Chairman, Sajad Gani Lone, CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, ANC President Begum Khalida Shah, senior vice president Muzaffar Shah, and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, and others.
In a social media post, Shah criticized the BJP, stating, "Why boast about August 5, 2019? With brute force and a million-strong army, anyone could impose their will. The reality is that the abrogation of Article 370 remains unconstitutional, and leaders like Begum Khalida Shah, Dr. Mustafa Kamal, and myself are still under house arrest."
"It’s well understood nowadays police comes to our residence’s on specific days & detain us which is unfortunate & condemnable. But what is more harassing & disgraceful we need to beg to police to allow our kids to go to school.Genuinely Aug 5 is black day & will remain so forever," JKNC's Salman Sagar said.
Meanwhile, JKNC in a statement issued here said, The Government has once again unjustly placed our leaders under house arrest, effectively isolating the party headquarters Nawa-e-Subha in Srinagar.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
This blatant suppression of mainstream democratic activities only serves to showcase the administration's underlying fear and exposes the hollowness of their claims of progress over the past five years.
It said,August 5, 2019, remains a stark reminder of the disempowerment of the people of J&K, a process that continues unchecked with the absence of a democratically elected government in the region.
The unilateral and undemocratic decisions made on August 5, 2019, are a betrayal of the promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir by New Delhi. These decisions are unacceptable to the people of J&K, as demonstrated by the recent parliamentary election results in the region.
As far as JKNC is concerned, we will persist in our fight for the restoration of our abridged rights through democratic, legal, and peaceful means. The unjust actions of the government will not deter us from our mission to uphold the rights and freedoms of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
