Srinagar, Nov 25 (KNS): The School Education Department (SED) has announced a staggered winter vacation for students in the Kashmir division and the winter zones of Jammu Division, according to an official order issued on Tuesday.

The phased schedule outlines different start dates for various classes. Pre-primary or Balvatika students will begin their break on November 26, which will continue until February 28, 2026.

Middle school students, covering classes up to 8th standard, are scheduled to start their winter vacation from December 1, also extending until the end of February.

Meanwhile, senior students from classes 9th to 12th will observe their break beginning December 11, concluding on February 22.
Despite the vacations, the department has emphasized that all teaching staff are required to remain available to engage in academic activities during the break.

Teachers are expected to return to their schools by February 20, 2026, to make the necessary arrangements for the reopening of educational institutions and resumption of classes.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

SED Secretary Ram Niwas Sharma highlighted that adherence to the winter break schedule is mandatory. Any failure by school heads or faculty members to comply with the outlined dates and responsibilities could result in disciplinary action, as per the rules governing the education department.

The phased approach aims to manage school operations smoothly, taking into account the heavy snowfall and harsh winter conditions in the region, which can affect student attendance and school functioning. By implementing staggered vacations, the department hopes to ensure minimal disruption to academic activities while also prioritizing the safety and convenience of students and staff.

Officials have asked parents and students to plan accordingly for the different vacation dates and remain informed about any further announcements regarding school schedules. Schools across the region are now preparing to accommodate the changes in the calendar and ensure a smooth transition into the winter break period.(KNS).
