Lays Foundation Stone for Masjid in Srinagar
Srinagar, Aug 08 (KNS): Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq on Thursday underscored the importance of masjids not only as places of divine worship but also as hubs for social reform and community activities. Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony for the renovation of the historic Haji Abdul Salam Qalandar Sahib Masjid in the Kadal area of Srinagar, Mirwaiz Farooq emphasized that masjids should emulate the Masjid-e-Nabwi (SAW) - the Prophet’s Mosque (PBUH) - which served as a model for an Islamic state and a movement for social transformation.
He noted that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) established a foundation that eradicated pre-Islamic superstitions and customs, transforming Arab society. Mirwaiz urged the people of Kashmir to ensure that mosques remain open to all Muslim sects and communities, promoting unity and inclusivity.
Mirwaiz Farooq stressed the need for incorporating spaces for women in new mosques to enable them to engage in worship and receive sermons and guidance.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe also highlighted the importance of establishing religious schools or madrasas alongside every masjid to educate the new generation in both contemporary and religious sciences, fostering a more progressive society.
"Masjids should convey a message of unity among Muslims and serve as centres for promoting humanitarian welfare both locally and globally," he stated.
Expressing concern over the rising drug addiction among the youth, Mirwaiz Farooq noted the severity of the issue, with millions affected. He called for a renewed campaign for social reform, referencing the previous efforts of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulama. He emphasized that it is the religious and moral responsibility of masjid imams, preachers, and local committees to actively work towards preventing youth from succumbing to drug addiction.
During his visit to the Kadal area after six to seven years, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was warmly welcomed by a large crowd, including men, women, children, and particularly the youth, who greeted him with enthusiasm and affection.(KNS)
