Kupwara, 13 Oct 24(KNS): In a continued effort to promote sports and provide a platform for the youth of Kupwara, the Indian Army’s Kupwara Terriers, in collaboration with the local cricket association, inaugurated the 2024 season of the Manwan Premier League in Awoora, Kupwara on 13 October 2024.
The tournament will take place at Awoora Manwan, with 24 teams from Awoora and nearby villages participating. The inaugural match was played between Friends Eleven Awoora and Sufian Eleven Manwan at the Manwan Cricket Ground, where Friends Eleven Awoora secured a 55-run victory. Suhail Mur of Friends Eleven Awoora was named Man of the Match for his exceptional batting performance, leading his team to victory.
As per Kashmir News Service(KNS), The event was organized by Mr. Showkat Ahmad Khan from Awoora, with support from the Indian Army’s Kupwara Terriers. The match was attended by the Commanding Officer (CO) of the Kupwara Terriers, local leaders, including sarpanches and ward members, and about 120 residents, including children, from Awoora and surrounding villages.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Alongside the league inauguration, a certification ceremony was held for students who completed a six-month basic computer course at Peer Computer Institute Awoora, run by the Indian Army. Sixteen students received diplomas from the CO, Kupwara Terriers. This marks the fourth batch of students to graduate from the institute, which was established in 2022 by the Kupwara Terriers to provide quality digital education to underprivileged students in the region. To date, 220 financially disadvantaged students have earned diplomas from the institute.
Cricketers and organizers expressed their gratitude to the Indian Army’s Kupwara Terriers for their support in organizing the event. The Indian Army, particularly the Kupwara Terriers, continues to lead efforts to foster a culture of sports in Kupwara.(KNS)
