Handwara, May 22 (KNS): Residents of several villages in the Mawar area of Handwara have alleged frequent unscheduled power cuts, saying electricity supply is not being maintained as per the notified schedule despite installation of power meters.
Residents from Audoora, Nowgam, Drungsoo, Khudi Lawoosa, Warpora, Rashwari, Puthwari and adjoining areas said they continue to face repeated outages despite making regular electricity payments.
They said the disruptions were causing inconvenience to households, students and small businesses during the ongoing season.
A resident from Drungsoo said if the department was unable to provide electricity as per schedule, the existing agreements should be reconsidered.
The residents said meters had recently been installed in villages falling under the Nowgam feeder, but power supply had remained irregular after the installation.
They questioned the purpose of metering when scheduled electricity supply was not being maintained.
The residents urged the Power Development Department to review the situation and restore proper electricity supply at the earliest, saying consumers should receive the service for which they are paying.(KNS).
