Srinagar, Aug 28(KNS): Mehbooba Mufti, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to publicly disclose the reasons behind the rejection of Sarjan Barkati's nomination form for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.

In a social media post, Mufti expressed concern over the decision and shared a video of Barkati's daughter crying. Mufti stated, "I'm saddened to hear about the rejection of Sarjan Barkati's nomination form from Zainapora. The Election Commission must make the reasons public for this decision. Democracy is a battle of ideas, and everyone should be given a chance to participate in it."

Sarjan Barkati, a prominent cleric and political figure from Shopian district, had his candidacy disqualified during the scrutiny process.(KNS).
