Srinagar, December 16(KNS): Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Molvi Umar Farooq, inaugurated a newly constructed mosque in the Hawal area of Srinagar. The event saw a large gathering of people who attended to hear the Mirwaiz's address, which focused on the role of mosques in religious and societal development.
In his address, the Mirwaiz stated that mosques should not only serve as spaces for offering prayers but also as centers for community activities and societal reform. He cited the example of the Prophet Muhammad’s mosque in Madina, which addressed various aspects of community life, including economics, politics, and spiritual guidance.
Highlighting the network of approximately 1,450 mosques in Srinagar, the Mirwaiz called for their effective utilization to address social challenges. The Mirwaiz also stressed the need for establishing Maktabs—religious learning centers—within mosques to provide moral and spiritual education to children after school hours.
He noted that such initiatives would help build strong foundational values in the younger generation and promote discipline and community involvement.
Concluding his address, the Mirwaiz urged the community to uphold unity and mutual respect while working together to address societal issues and prevent divisions.(KNS).
