Vows to Oppose Waqf Amendment Bill in Eid Sermons

Srinagar, Mar 29 (KNS): The Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), the largest representative body of Ulema, Imams, and religious organizations in Jammu & Kashmir, has strongly condemned the authorities' decision to disallow Shab-e-Qadr and Jumat-ul-Vida congregational prayers at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar and the house arrest of its Ameer, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

In a statement, the MMU expressed deep resentment over what it termed as a deliberate attempt to curb religious freedoms in the region. It lamented that while congregational prayers were allowed worldwide, including in conflict zones, authorities in Kashmir imposed restrictions, hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims.

Furthermore, the MMU announced that Ulema, Khateebs, and Imams across Jammu & Kashmir would use their Eid-ul-Fitr sermons to voice strong opposition to the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill, which the Government of India plans to table in Parliament.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe organization argued that the Bill undermines Muslim religious and community institutions and urged the government to withdraw it.

The MMU, comprising prominent religious bodies such as Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, Jamiat Ahle Hadith, and Darul Uloom Rahimiyah, called for collective action to safeguard religious rights and appealed to the government to respect the sentiments of Muslims in Jammu & Kashmir and across India.(KNS)
