Says Medical Teams Deployed, Cause Still Unknown

Srinagar, Jan 14 (KNS): Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, has expressed concern over the spread of an unidentified disease in Rajouri, which has already resulted in multiple deaths. Speaking in Srinagar, she confirmed that health officials are actively investigating the cause while ensuring necessary medical interventions.  


According to the minister, the disease was under control until recently, but fresh cases emerged following an event on January 9, where several children were affected. “Six to seven children fell ill after attending a function and were shifted from Rajouri Government Medical College to Jammu. Unfortunately, some of them succumbed,” she stated.  

Itoo emphasized that the health department has mobilized all resources to tackle the situation. “The entire medical team, including directors, heads of departments, and concerned doctors, are on the ground.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelI have personally spoken to the District Development Commissioner and SSP Rajouri, who are also monitoring the developments,” she added.  

Despite extensive testing, the cause of the disease remains unknown. “The Secretary of Health has issued instructions, and further investigations are underway. Although initial reports from collected samples have returned negative, additional tests are being conducted, and the findings will be shared with the press,” Itoo assured.  

Acknowledging the challenges posed by the winter season, the minister also highlighted the need for proper heating arrangements in hospitals. “Ensuring patient care during the cold months is a priority, and we regularly review the situation with hospital directors,” she said.  (KNS)
