NCW Cell receives a record of 365 cases of Violence Against Women in Bandipora

Bandipora, Sep 19 (KNS):The National Commission for Women (NCW) Cell in the Bandipora district of North Kashmir recorded as many as 365 complaints of violence against women last year showing a steep rise in such cases.

Data collected by Kashmir News Service (KNS), states that 365 complaints were registered in NCW over the past year in Bandipora primarily related to dowry, rape, and attempted rape.

In recent years various measures were taken by the government to prevent violence against women, which remains a significant human rights concern across the globe.

In Bandipora a special cell of NCW has been set up in police station Bandipora, where officials posted are providing legal aid, counselling and other assistance to women affected by domestic violence.

"Most of the women remain silent on these issues which become a burden on their lives, they are unable to live their lives happily," one of the women affected by domestic violence told Kashmir News Service.

She added, that the women need to come forward against the violence on her and should report these things so that they will not become targets in their in-laws or families.

"Many incidents remain unreported due to barriers like illiteracy and limited education, which prevents women from filing complaints online," an official said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

"Out of 365 cases, 310 cases have been solved. 15 have been referred to DLSA and 10 cases have been closed by mutual separation."

She also said that in the last year, one FIR has been lodged on a complaint of a girl and the affected women can register their complaint on the mobile number of the special cell.

“In Bandipora most of the complaints received by NCW are related to blackmailing against girls in relationships, domestic violence and dowry.”

The KNS also learnt the cases of harassment of girls in schools, public places and in public transport have also increased in recent years in the district which is a new cause of concern for many.

The government has introduced various measures to prevent violence against women, which remains a significant human rights concern globally.

The special cell at Police Station Bandipora is overseen by DySP Hqrs Bandipora, who serves as the nodal officer.

Additionally, two social workers, Ifla Shah and Snober Ali, deputed by the NCW, provide legal aid, counselling, and other assistance to women affected by violence. (KNS)
