New Delhi, Aug 1 (KNS): India has informed Parliament that its relationship with Pakistan continues to face serious strain following the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year.
The government stated that in response to the assault, carried out by militants from across the border, it launched a military campaign named Operation Sindoor targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The update came through a written reply in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, who outlined India's response to the April 22 attack that claimed civilian lives in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the ministry, India not only responded militarily but also pursued firm diplomatic actions. Operation Sindoor, the military effort, was aimed at eliminating cross-border terror launchpads and associated facilities along the Line of Control.
On May 10, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan reached out to his Indian counterpart, requesting an end to the exchanges along the border. India agreed the same day, leading to a temporary halt in active firing.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHowever, the government clarified that this ceasefire does not imply any change in India’s broader policy stance.
New Delhi has reiterated that any talks with Islamabad are contingent upon "credible and verifiable action" by Pakistan to dismantle terror networks operating from its soil. The official reply made it clear that dialogue and terrorism cannot go hand-in-hand.
In response to whether the April-May border escalation altered the nature of bilateral ties, the government stated that India’s strategic approach remains focused on tackling terrorism at its root. National security, the reply said, will not be compromised under any circumstance.
Operation Sindoor is still ongoing, and there is currently no indication from the Indian side of any immediate plans to resume diplomatic engagement.
The Ministry reaffirmed that India would continue taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of its citizens and the security of its territory against external threats.(KNS).
