Notorious timber smuggler who was evading arrested apprehended in Handwara

Handwara, Nov 10 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said that it apprehended a notorious and habitual timber smuggler, who was evading his arrest since March 2023 in Handwara area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

An official said that based on human intelligence and technological resources, a police party led by SHO PS Qalamabad successfully apprehended a notorious and habitual timber smuggler identified as Mohd Ashraf Chechi son of Lal Din Chechi resident of Shiltra Qalamabad.

Pertinently, a Public Safety Act (PSA) warrant was issued by District Magistrate Kupwara on March 03, 2023 against him as he is known for orchestrating a network of illegal timber trade.

"Handwara Police encourage citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may threaten the well-being of the community," the official added.(KNS).
