Over 40 Senior Congress Leaders from Ganderbal Join PDP Under Leadership of Saahil Farooq Ahmad

Srinagar June 18 (KNS): In a significant political development in central Kashmir, over 40 senior office bearers and workers from the District Congress Committee Ganderbal, led by former INC District President Saahil Farooq Ahmad, joined the Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a major induction event held at the party headquarters in Srinagar.

The joining took place in the presence of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, Chief Spokesperson Dr. Mehboob Beg, General Secretary Mohd Khursheed Alam, along with senior leaders, constituency incharges, and dedicated office bearers and party workers.

The new entrants include leaders who have held important positions such as District Vice Presidents, General Secretaries, Block Presidents, and Halqa/Ward-level heads within the Congress Party—marking a significant shift in political alignment at the grassroots level in Ganderbal.

Addressing the gathering, Saahil Farooq Ahmad said:
“This is a conscious political decision to align with a party that has consistently stood by the people of Jammu & Kashmir. At a time when the Congress leadership remained silent, PDP kept the connection with the ground intact.”

Welcoming the new entrants, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti remarked:
“The induction of such experienced and grassroots-connected leaders into PDP is a clear indication of the growing trust in our party’s commitment to dignity, rights, and the distinct identity of Jammu & Kashmir.”

Chief Spokesperson Dr.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelMehboob Beg added:
“This joining is not just an organisational gain—it’s a political statement. It reflects a growing realisation among seasoned leaders that PDP remains the only credible platform resisting the ongoing erosion of Jammu & Kashmir’s constitutional identity and democratic space. The Congress has unfortunately vacated that space, and these leaders have chosen to stand on the right side of history.”

General Secretary Mohd Khursheed Alam stated:
“This joining is not just symbolic—it reflects a political awakening among ground-level leadership. PDP will continue to be the platform for voices that have been sidelined and aspirations that demand accountability and justice.”

The new entrants pledged to strengthen PDP’s grassroots presence and contribute meaningfully to its pro-people vision.

In a notable return, Qazi Mubashir, grandson of former minister Marhoom Qazi Afzal Sahab, rejoined the PDP, pledging to work towards empowering local voices and reclaiming the space for democratic engagement at the grassroots.

Additionally, Fiza Maqbool from Asthal Kulgam, a graduate of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, also joined the party. She expressed her desire “to make herself accountable to bring in the change people want to see in the political and power structure.” Her joining adds an academic perspective to PDP’s outreach and reform efforts.(KNS)
