Srinagar, Mar 17 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir government has disclosed that a total of 7,196 posts were advertised by the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and the Jammu & Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) between 2023 and 2024.
The information was provided in response to a question raised by legislator Dr. S. Bashir Ahmad Veeri during the second session of the Legislative Assembly. The government’s reply highlighted recruitment trends across different categories.
According to the official data, JKPSC advertised 3,296 posts, with 2,185 in 2023 and 1,111 in 2024. Meanwhile, JKSSB advertised 5,000 posts, with 329 in 2023 and a sharp increase to 4,671 in 2024. The data also revealed that a total of 11,526 selections were made by both agencies over the two-year period, with JKSSB accounting for 9,351 appointments and JKPSC for 2,175.
The category-wise breakdown of selections by JKPSC in 2023 and 2024 shows that 1,291 candidates were selected under the Open Merit (OM) category, constituting 59 percent of the total selections. Other categories included 116 from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), 162 from the Scheduled Caste (SC), 180 from the Scheduled Tribe (ST), and 24 from the Physically Handicapped Category (PHC).Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIn terms of advertised posts, EWS had the highest number of reserved seats in 2023, with 274 posts, while the Police Service Personnel (PSP) category had only 4 posts advertised in 2024.
For JKSSB, selections under Open Merit (OM) accounted for 4,773 candidates, forming 51 percent of total appointments. Other categories included 764 from EWS, 1,161 from the Reserved Backward Areas (RBA), 823 from ST, and 895 from SC. In 2024, the number of advertised posts saw a significant rise, with OM receiving 1,867 posts and EWS getting 467. The Scheduled Tribe (ST) category was split into ST1 and ST2, each receiving 467 posts, while Other Backward Classes (OBC) were allocated 375 posts.
The data shows JKPSC reduced its advertised posts by nearly 50 percent from 2023 to 2024, JKSSB witnessed a 14-fold increase in job advertisements during the same period. The figures also indicate that social categories like EWS and RBA remained key focus areas for both agencies.
The information was presented in response to Dr. Veeri’s query, which sought greater transparency in the recruitment process amid rising unemployment concerns in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
