Srinagar, November 4 (KNS): PDP MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para introduced a resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on behalf of his party, calling for the restoration of Article 370.
The article previously granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir before its revocation in 2019.
During his address, Para congratulated the newly elected Speaker saying, "Sir, I have a resolution on behalf of my party that I want to submit. The resolution calls for the restoration of Article 370."
The proposal ignited an uproar among BJP MLAs, who urged the Speaker to reject the resolution outright. Speaker Rather sought to maintain order, responding, "This is my domain. Let me examine this and I will decide on the resolution accordingly."
Despite the Speaker's efforts, the 28 BJP legislators remained defiant, refusing to sit and demanding the resolution be discarded.
BJP Leader of Opposition Sharma said, “This is not done on the first day; this kind of stuff is introduced in this House.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel”
The Speaker reiterated, "I have not seen this copy yet. Let me go through it and examine it. If you (BJP) have decided not to allow this house to run, then I can’t say anything."
The Assembly session was marked by chaos as BJP members continued their protests against the PDP's move.
Meanwhile PDP President Mehbooba Mufti expressed her pride in Waheed Para for introducing the resolution.
She called it a courageous step toward restoring the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Proud of Waheed Para for introducing the resolution in the J&K Assembly opposing the revocation of Article 370 and resolve to restore the special status", Mehbooba said in a post on "X".(KNS)
