Srinagar, Jan 11 (KNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed excitement ahead of his visit to Sonmarg on Monday for the inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel.
The tunnel, a major infrastructure project, will provide all-weather connectivity to Sonmarg, boost tourism, and reduce travel time between Srinagar and Kargil/Leh.
Reposting a social media update by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Prime Minister wrote, “I am eagerly awaiting my visit to Sonmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, for the tunnel inauguration. Ahead of the visit, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reviewed the preparations in Sonmarg on Saturday. Sharing details of his visit on X, he stated, “The inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel will open Sonmarg to tourism all year round. Sonmarg will now be developed as a great ski resort. The local population will not have to leave in winter, and the travel time to Kargil/Leh from Srinagar will also reduce.”
The Z-Morh tunnel, located on the Srinagar-Leh highway, is expected to bring economic benefits to the region by enhancing tourism and improving connectivity. Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the tunnel on January 13. (KNS)
