Pulwama, July 05 (KNS): Inhabitants of Ratnipora village in Pulwama district have taken it upon themselves to repair a link road damaged by dysfunctional drainage system and sewage when the concerned departments failed to address their grievance.
The inhabitants of Banimpora mohalla in Ratnipora village of the district said they had urged the Roads and Buildings department and Rural Development Department to redress their grievances, but both the departments passed the buck onto each other.
The residents said that the link road that passes through Banimpora mohalla and links nearby villages of Gulbugh and Hanjipora is damaged due to sewage released from kitchens, bathrooms, and cowsheds by some residents into the dysfunctional drain, which ultimately spills over the road and damages it.
The residents said the sewage in the blocked drain releases stink and pollution that has made their life miserable and has become a source of communicable diseases in the hot summer.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The residents said they filed grievances with both the R&B and Rural Development Departments, but shockingly, both the departments passed the buck and neglected them.
"R&B officials said the grievance pertians to RDD while the later said it pertains to the former," they said.
Neglected by the administration, the locals repaired the damaged road but could not repair the dysfunctional drainage and convince some residents to stop releasing sewage onto the road.
The residents have urged the deputy commissioner Pulwama to intervene and ask the concerned officials to repair the road and take action against the residents who release domestic sewage into the dysfunctional drain which causes pollution and damage to the link road.(KNS)
