Srinagar March 08(KNS): Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) started their Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 campaign with a record 202-run chase against Gujarat Giants, followed by a comfortable eight-wicket win over Delhi Capitals (DC). However, four consecutive defeats at home have left them on the verge of elimination from the league stage.
With just four points from six matches, RCB can reach a maximum of eight points if they win their remaining two games against UP Warriorz (UPW) and Mumbai Indians (MI). While Giants and MI already have eight points, DC have secured a playoff spot with ten points. Despite their current position, RCB still have a chance to qualify.
Must-Win Scenario for RCB
RCB’s playoff hopes will be over if they lose to UPW on Saturday. However, a victory would keep them in contention, making the MI vs. Giants match crucial in determining which team's net run rate (NRR) they must surpass. Giants currently hold a better NRR than MI, but RCB will have an opportunity to improve theirs when they face MI in their final league match.

However, overtaking Giants will be more challenging—RCB would need a combined winning margin of around 62 runs in their last two matches if Giants lose to MI by ten runs.
DC’s Direct Final Qualification Still Uncertain
Delhi Capitals have topped the league table with five wins, but their direct entry into the final is not yet confirmed. MI and Giants both have a chance to surpass them.
MI can claim the top spot by winning their last two matches, while Giants can move ahead of DC if they defeat MI by a significant margin. Giants need a 17-run or 12-ball win (for a first-innings total of 180) over MI to overtake DC’s NRR. Meanwhile, MI are about 30 runs behind DC, meaning if they lose one match by ten runs, they must win the other by around 40 runs to secure the top spot.
With the league stage nearing its end, the battle for playoff spots and a direct final berth remains intense.(KNS)
