Bandipora Feb 02 (KNS): The residents of Gamroo village in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district have come together with a strong demand for the establishment of a high school in the area, aiming to uplift educational opportunities, especially for girls.

Currently, the village has only a middle school, and students must travel long distances to pursue education beyond Class 8. Due to this challenge, many girls from economically weaker sections are forced to discontinue their studies.

Ali Mohammad Dar, an ex-lecturer from the area, highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating, “The absence of a high school forces many girls to drop out. A local high school would change the future of our daughters.”

Mohd. Ismail Dar, another resident, reiterated the need for a high school, emphasizing its impact on literacy rates and women’s empowerment.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe Auqaf Committee of Gamroo has been actively advocating for this cause and has urged authorities to take swift action.

With a population of 1,573 and a commendable literacy rate of 77.86%, Gamroo has shown a strong commitment to education. The village has a higher literacy rate than the Jammu and Kashmir average, with male literacy at 88.77% and female literacy at 66.82%. However, residents believe that a local high school will bridge the gender gap in education and encourage more girls to continue their studies.

The people of Gamroo and surrounding areas have appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Minister, the Education Minister, and local authorities to fulfill this long-pending demand. They remain hopeful that their voices will be heard, and a high school will soon be established, paving the way for a brighter future for the youth of Gamroo. (KNS)
