Kargil, Aug 26 (KNS): Sajjad Kargili, Incharge of Political Affairs at Jamiat Ulama, has responded to the recent announcement by Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the creation of five new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh. While welcoming the Government of India's decision, Kargili has raised concerns about the exclusion of the Suru Sankoo and Shakar Chiktan regions from district status.
In his statement, Sajjad Kargili expressed his support for the creation of new districts but emphasized the need for an amendment to include the Suru Sankoo and Shakar Chiktan regions as a district. "Not granting district status to these regions is an injustice towards the people of that area, who have been advocating for this recognition for a long time," Kargili stated.
He further highlighted the importance of ensuring that these newly announced districts are fully functional, with all powers and responsibilities effectively transferred. Kargili cautioned against the creation of districts that merely resemble the sub-divisions established in the past, where powers were not transferred, rendering them ineffective.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Addressing Home Minister Amit Shah directly, Kargili underscored the need for the creation of new districts to be accompanied by the establishment of an assembly and other democratic processes in Ladakh. "The true benefit of creating new districts will only be realized if it is accompanied by the establishment of an assembly and further democratic processes. Without these, there is a risk of adding bureaucratic layers instead of enhancing democratic governance in Ladakh," he added.
Kargili’s statement reflects both his support for administrative restructuring in Ladakh and his commitment to ensuring that such changes genuinely serve the interests of the people, rather than merely expanding bureaucratic control.
The announcement of new districts has sparked discussions across Ladakh, with many local leaders and residents expressing their views on the potential impact of this decision. As the Centre moves forward with its plans, the concerns raised by Kargili and others will likely shape the ongoing dialogue about the future governance of the region.(KNS)
