Srinagar, May 31 (KNS): Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura has been playing a major role in Jammu & Kashmir’s healthcare. The hospital having 1050 bedding capacity, is witnessing over 4000 patients daily basis in its OPD.

Kashmir News Service (KNS) has learnt from hospital sources that SKIMS is serving a major component of healthcare system of Jammu and Kashmir. The hospital is not only serving its local admission, but huge number referrals from different districts of Kashmir Valley.

An official informed that the SKIMS OPD is witnessing over 4000 patients per day who are being provided consultatiin and treated by valleys best healthcare experts. Besides, the emergency unit of the hospital receives more than 800 patients daily. 250 full stay and short stay admissions are made each day.

“SKIMS receives 800 patients each day, while as over 4000 patients visit the hospital OPD each day.

Lauding the efforts of doctors, paramedical and other subordinate staff, the official said that SKIMS employees put their best efforts for efficient patient care. 60 major surgeries per day are carried out. The official however maintained that in given circumstances, there was an immediate requirement for filling of vacant positions in the hospital. “As of now we have almost 2500 doctors, paramedics and other subordinate staff serving patients, but due to heavy workload it needs to be doubled so that local admission as well as referrals could br attended smoothly,” he said.
The hospital is 1050 bedded, besides there are approximately 250 beds in medical, surgical and pediatric emergency.

The official held that the requirement is terms of manpower and other facilities has been communicated to the higher authorities for recruitment.

He added that besides being the apex tertiary care institute of the state, SKIMS has a huge role in rolling out trained manpower that man multiple institutions of the state, country and many institutes across the globe.

Notably the foundation stone of SKIMS was laid in 1978 and it was officially commissioned on December 5th, 1982. Since then SKIMS has gone beyond delivering the state of art health care in producing skilled manpower including doctors, paramedics and technicians. (KNS)
