Srinagar, August 12 (KNS): Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather on Tuesday conducted a surprise inspection of Legislature Hostel Srinagar to gather first-hand appraisal of all ongoing development and upgradation works at the hostel for the facilitation of legislators.
Secretary Legislative Assembly, Manoj Kumar Pandita; Executive Engineers of various wings; senior officers of the Legislative Assembly Secretariat and other concerned officers also accompanied the Speaker during the visit.
During the inspection, the Speaker toured various sections of the New Block of the hostel, assessing the pace and quality of civil works, infrastructure improvements, and other facilities. He directed the concerned executing agencies to maintain high standards of workmanship and adhere strictly to the stipulated timelines, stressing that public resources must be utilized efficiently and works executed to reflect both quality and durability.

Later, the Speaker chaired a brief meeting to review the functioning of the Legislature Hostel.
Speaking during the meeting, he instructed the hostel management to ensure proper upkeep, regular maintenance, and modern amenities to meet contemporary requirements of legislators. “Legislators are the face of democracy and they need necessary facilities with the dignity they deserve,” he stated.
He also underlined that improvements in the functioning of the hostel will not only benefit legislators but also uphold the dignity of the institution they serve.
Meanwhile, during the meeting, the Speaker also took stock of various issues concerning employees of the Legislature Hostel. He directed the officers of the Assembly Secretariat to conduct DPC meetings of eligible staff members in a timely manner. He also called upon the officers to maintain proper discipline in the hostel and ensure a proper uniform code for the staff. (KNS)
