Jammu, Apr 21 (KNS): Vehicular movement on the Srinagar- Jammu National Highway (NH-44) will remain suspended on April 22 as road restoration work could not be completed, the Traffic Police Headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir informed on Monday.
Authorities have advised commuters to avoid any journey on the highway until the repair work is finished and the road is declared traffic-worthy.
Similarly, the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag National Highway (NH-244) remains closed due to fresh snowfall. Officials stated that any decision regarding the movement of vehicles on this road will be made only after receiving clearance from the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
For the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) road, one-way traffic will be permitted from Kargil towards Srinagar, subject to fair weather and approval from the Border Roads Organization (BRO). Only Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) equipped with anti-skid chains, followed by Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) with a maximum of six tyres, will be allowed. The cut-off time for these vehicles at Minamarg has been fixed at 1:30 PM. No vehicle will be allowed to proceed beyond this time.
Traffic on the Mughal Road will also be allowed, but only for LMVs and private cars, provided the weather remains clear and the road condition is satisfactory. Clearance from the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) is mandatory before movement begins. Vehicles from both Jammu and Srinagar sides will be allowed to cross between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, from Behramgala (Baffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian).Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Traffic Police have also fixed specific cut-off timings for passenger and private vehicles at various points. From the Jammu side, vehicles will be allowed to cross Akhnoor till 10:00 AM, Bhambla till 11:00 AM, Rajouri till 1:00 PM, Manjakote till 1:30 PM, Surankote till 2:30 PM, and Behramgala till 3:00 PM.
From the Srinagar side, vehicles must cross TRC Srinagar by 12:30 PM, Nowgam Peaks and Pantha Chowk by 1:00 PM, Chandhara Pampore, Galandar via Kakapora, and Marvel Crossing by 2:00 PM. Similarly, Kandizal, Khudwani, and other points like Chawalgam and Keegam must be crossed before the respective cut-off timings, with Herpora being the last check-post at 3:00 PM.
No vehicle will be allowed to cross these points after the fixed timings. Traffic through the Thanamandi-DKG-Baffliaz route will also remain suspended. The Bhaderwah-Chamba road is still closed due to heavy snow accumulation.
The Traffic Police Department has urged commuters to confirm the status of the road before undertaking any journey.
