Srinagar, Dec 18 (KNS): The city of Srinagar officially launched its Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) on Wednesday, marking a significant leap towards a technology-driven solution for traffic regulation. On its first day of operation, around 200 e-challans were issued to traffic violators across the city.
According to Srinagar Traffic Police officials, the introduction of the ITMS aims to modernize traffic management through advanced technology. The system employs high-resolution cameras and radar sensors to track vehicle movements, automatically detect violations, and generate e-challans.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic City, Muzaffar Shah, explained that the ITMS reduces human involvement in law enforcement, making the process more transparent, efficient, and evidence-based. He emphasized that the system will monitor traffic in real time, ensuring that violations are detected and challans are generated without delay.
“The ITMS marks a new era in traffic regulation, allowing us to maintain a constant watch on traffic flow and promptly act against violators,” Shah said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Local residents have expressed their support for the new system, calling it a step forward in improving road safety and reducing traffic congestion. Aadil Ahmad, a local resident, said, "The e-challan system will make drivers more responsible. This is a much-needed initiative to ensure adherence to traffic rules and enhance road safety."
Another local praised the ITMS as a "game-changer," stating that it applies modern technology to solve long-standing traffic issues. The system, which uses high-resolution cameras and radar sensors, will monitor key traffic points, intersections, and highways, providing valuable data for traffic analysis and enforcement.
The ITMS will collect real-time traffic data and process it through advanced algorithms, helping authorities better understand traffic patterns and violations. This move is expected to improve coordination, enhance road safety, and streamline traffic management in Srinagar. (KNS)
