Srinagar, Aug 9 (KNS); Srinagar Police have arrested a habitual fraudster for allegedly duping several businessmen and shopkeepers across the Valley through fraudulent means and impersonation, officials said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Ubaid Maqbool Khawaja, son of Maqbool Ahmad Khawaja, a resident of Gomal Chek, Tangdar, presently residing at Habib Colony, Alochi Bagh, was arrested in connection with FIR No. 45/2026 registered at Police Station Mahraj Gunj under Sections 318(4) and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said multiple complaints have been received against the accused from different parts of the Valley.
Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe is also named in several other FIRs, including FIR No. 76/2022 under Section 430 IPC at Police Station Kothibagh and FIR No. 83/2023 under Sections 201, 379, 416 and 430 IPC at Police Station Pulwama.
Officials further informed that the accused had also been detained earlier under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in view of his continued involvement in criminal activities.
Further investigation is underway to establish his wider network and ascertain his involvement in other instances of fraud, they added. (KNS)
