Searches carried out at residences of jailed Tehreek-e-Hurriyat members in Srinagar, Pulwama, and Baramulla

Srinagar, Apr 10 (KNS): Srinagar Police on Thursday carried out searches in connection with a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

According to officials, the searches were conducted after obtaining a warrant from the Hon’ble NIA Court, Srinagar, in case FIR No. 01/2024 under sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA, registered at Police Station Rajbagh. The operation was carried out in the presence of an Executive Magistrate 1st Class.

The houses searched include that of Bashir Ahmed Bhat alias Peer Saifullah, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Zadoora Pulwama presently lodged in Tihar Jail, and that of Advocate Mohammad Ashraf Laya, son of Ghulam Rasool Laya, resident of Jamia Qadeem Baramulla and currently residing in Old Barzulla, Srinagar.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Both individuals are associated with the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, police said.

During the search at the residence of Bashir Ahmed Bhat, police recovered incriminating materials including books, letterheads, pamphlets, and letters related to the ongoing investigation. These materials were seized in accordance with proper legal procedures in the presence of the Magistrate and independent witnesses.

Police stated that the investigation in the case is underway and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region. "Any individual found involved in promoting violence or unlawful activities will face strict legal action," a police spokesperson said. (KNS)
