Udhampur, August 12 (KNS): Sunil Verma, District President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), has warmly welcomed the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, calling it a much-needed step towards lasting peace and security for border residents in the region.

In a statement issued today, Sunil Verma said the ceasefire understanding is a significant relief for the people living along the Line of Control and International Border. “Peace on the borders is essential not only for national stability but also for safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of our people,” he said.

Sunil Verma particularly praised the proactive leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah amidst heightened Indo-Pak tensions. “At a time when fear gripped the border belts due to cross-border firing, it was Omar Abdullah who stood by the people like a rock. He personally visited the affected areas, interacted with distressed families, and ensured that the administration was fully mobilized to respond to the crisis,” Verma recalled.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

He said the Omar-led government had set a benchmark for compassionate governance by prioritizing the safety, rehabilitation, and welfare of border dwellers. “The former CM didn’t govern from the confines of his office—he led from the front, monitoring the situation on ground and directing relief measures in real time. That is the kind of leadership Jammu and Kashmir needs once again,” Verma asserted.

He also praised the CM Omar Abdullah for announcing Rs 10 Lakhs as compensation for the kins of those who killed in the cross border firing in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sunil Verma expressed hope that the ceasefire pact will be upheld sincerely by both nations and evolve into broader dialogue for the resolution of long-pending issues.(KNS)
