Srinagar, 11 Dec :(KNS)In a significant step toward addressing the long-standing needs of local residents, MLA Central Shalteng and JK Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra, inaugurated the first major development project in Beigh Mohalla, Allochi Bagh, Srinagar. The project includes the much-anticipated commencement of drainage work in the area, a vital improvement for the community.

Residents of Beigh Mohalla expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Karra for his dedicated efforts and focus on developmental initiatives.

During his visit, Tariq Hameed Karra also inspected the proposed site for a new marriage hall, engaging directly with residents to discuss their concerns and suggestions.

Speaking on the occasion, Tariq Hameed Karra said that "Fulfilling the aspirations of my people is my foremost priority. This project reflects our commitment to ensuring better infrastructure and services for the people of the Central Shalteng constituency. Beigh Mohalla Alochi Bagh has been waiting for this progress for years, and I am honored to contribute to its development."

This achievement addresses a long-pending demand and underscores his (Karra's) proactive approach to community development.

Responses to Key Public Issues; Commenting on the conversion of smart postpaid meters to prepaid without public consultation,Karra said "The unilateral decision to shift post-paid smart meters into prepaid mode, especially without consulting the public, is deeply concerning. Low-income and underprivileged sections of society will suffer the most. In harsh winters, when electricity is essential, this policy could lead to significant hardships. Instead of burdening the people, the administration must ensure a stable power supply, avoid unreasonable hikes, and provide subsidies or special provisions for those who can barely afford basic amenities."

Regarding ongoing traffic diversions causing chaos at Tengpora Bypass, Mominabad, and Surrounding Areas affecting, Karra urged the administration that "The unnecessary and prolonged diversions are creating daily hardships for commuters and jeopardizing emergency services such as ambulances, fire brigades and trade fraternity.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelI urge the traffic department to prioritize public convenience and safety by revisting these plans and ensuring smoother traffic flow. A well-coordinated approach is critical to resolving this issue permanently."

Addressing flood concerns due to choked drainage, flood channels in Rambagh, Alochi Bagh, Tengpora, Batamaloo, Bemina, and Surrounding Areas, Karra said "When I was a Member of Parliament, a comprehensive ?400 crore project was approved for flood mitigation and drainage system improvement in the Kashmir Province.

Unfortunately, subsequent administrations failed to implement it effectively, and the funds remain unaccounted for. Immediate dredging and desilting are necessary to prevent another disaster like the 2014 floods.

Reviving these projects will not only mitigate the risks but also provide employment opportunities.

Skilled and unskilled workers can be engaged in dredging, desilting, and infrastructure upgrades, while ancillary jobs can emerge in logistics and material transportation. Additionally, the sale of excavated soil can generate revenue, creating a sustainable cycle of development. Such initiatives will transform flood management efforts into a vehicle for economic growth and job creation across multiple sectors."

On reports of officers bypassing elected representatives, Mr. Karra said "In a democracy, officers are accountable to the elected government and must work in tandem with public representatives. Ignoring the voices of the people undermines trust and hampers development.

Elected representatives are the legitimate bridge between the government and the public, and their role must be respected to ensure effective governance in Jammu and Kashmir.”(KNS)
