 Srinagar, Oct 20(KNS): Two non-local laborers were killed while three other sustained injuries after terrorists opened fire on them in Gagangeer area near Sonamarg in central Kashmir on Sunday evening, officials said.

"Security personnel from the Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) along with local police officials have cordoned off the area," they said.

Newly elected Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has strongly condemned the recent militant attack on non-local labourers in the Gagangeer area near Sonamarg in central Kashmir, which left two dead and several others injured.

In a post on social media, Omar Abdullah expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, calling it a “dastardly and cowardly attack.” He noted that the victims were working on a crucial infrastructure project in the region when they were targeted.

"Very sad news of a dastardly and cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangeer in Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area. Two have been killed, and two to three more have been injured in this militant attack," the CM said.

He condemned the attack on unarmed, innocent individuals and extended his condolences to the victims' families.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel"I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people and send my condolences to their loved ones," Omar Abdullah added.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra also condemned the attack.

JKPCC President expressed grave concern over the attack by unknown gunmen on non local labourers.
He  said such incidents will vitiate the atmosphere, urging the Govt to take immediate measures to contain such brutal attacks on innocent  Labourers. Karra expressed heartfelt condolences to bereaved families and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.(KNS).
