Udhampur, March 7 (KNS): In a continued effort to combat drug trafficking and addiction, Udhampur district authorities have ramped up their actions under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Over 100 drug addicts were arrested in 2024, with substantial quantities of illegal drugs seized.
The district has made significant progress in targeting drug peddlers, with more than 25 arrested under the Preventive Detention (PIT) NDPS Act in 2025 alone. Notably, one major drug peddler was arrested, and the police confiscated properties worth Rs 1.65 crore linked to the sale of illegal drugs, including properties in Chandigarh, under Section 68E of the NDPS Act.
Udhampur Police are focusing on high-profile drug peddlers who smuggle dangerous substances such as heroin and brown sugar. The district police face numerous challenges, including the continuous innovation of drug peddlers who are shifting to small-scale transactions to avoid stricter bail conditions. Despite these obstacles, the Udhampur police have successfully identified and arrested major figures in the drug trade.
In an exclusive statement to KNS, SSP Udhampur Amod Najpuri highlighted the district's unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace.
