Uri, June 24 (KNS): Hundreds of residents in Uri protested against the Power Development Department (PDD) for hike in the monthly electricity fees over the past year.
"The sudden hike in the electricity fees has become unbearable for the common people," said Muhammad Shafi, President Trade Union Uri said while addressing the protestors.
"We urge the administration and higher authorities to review this unfair increase. If our demands are not met, we will have no choice but to escalate our protests," he added according to KNS correspondent.
Nadeem Abasi, a political social activist said: "The PDD must consider the financial burden this fee hike places on the residents. We have submitted a memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Uri, detailing our grievances and demands.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThis protest is just the beginning if no corrective measures are taken."
In the memorandum submitted to SDM Uri, the locals outlined their demand for an immediate rollback of the fee hike. They emphasized the economic hardships faced by the community and warned of more extensive protests if the issue is not addressed promptly.
A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed his concerns: "We are already struggling to make ends meet. Doubling the electricity fees in such a short span is outrageous. The authorities must listen to us and act swiftly." (KNS).
