Srinagar, Nov 02(KNS): In a spirited initiative to promote integrity and transparency in governance, Literary Club, Islamia College of Science and Commerce organized a programme to celebrate the Vigilance Awareness Week under the theme "Culture of Integrity for Nation's Prosperity."
The event took place today on 2nd November 2024 and was attended by students, faculty, and guest speakers from various fields.
The program commenced with an inaugural address by Prof Rehana Bhat, Convenor Literary Club , who emphasized the importance of ethical values in building a prosperous nation.
"While wealth and power may offer a temporary gratification, it is our moral compass that shapes the essence of a meaningful life", she stated.
Principal Prof.(Dr) Tehmeena Yousuf in her formal welcome address stressed the importance of Vigilance since corruption hampers the growth and development of society. She impressed upon the students to learn and get enlightened during such expert lectures. "Awareness is the first step to combat corruption" she added.
Sheikh Ayaz, SSP Anti Corruption Bureau enlightened the audience about the genesis of corruption and elaborated on varied and diverse manifestations of corruption. He discussed at length the working of Anti Corruption Bureau as mandated under Prevention of Corruption Act.He also stressed for the eradication of corruption as a menace by the proactive approach of the citizens toward this direction
Prof Abdul Majid, Head, Department of English in his address emphasized the importance of quality education cutting across the barriers of religious, ethnic, linguistic and regional divide for creating a system rooted in Indian Ethos of Culture and Plurality.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat, Social Activist shared his insights on the role of just and honest leadership for the strong foundation of a nation. He read out a paper on this topic and appreciated CM Omar Abdullah for making his cabinet colleagues and administrative secretaries to take the Integrity Pledge. He appealed to the Govt to work beyond the Integrity Pledge and ensure clean and transparent administration .
Public Interest Lawyer and RTI Activist Badrul Dujja in his speech delved on the menace of corruption which according to him has penetrated deeply in our social fabric. He stressed that the family as an institution has a significant role and responsibility to groom its members in the right direction.
Mr Rayees Wathori, Director Tulkul Arts and Media Collective and his associate Tanveer performed a skit on the functioning of official duties and procedures which consequently motivate the beneficiary to grease the palm of the lowest possible subordinate staff.
Dr Mir Haneef delivered a formal vote of thanks. Ms Nuha Nabeela, student of PG Department of English anchored the programme.
The program concluded with a pledge taken by all attendees to uphold integrity in their actions and contribute to a transparent society. The College Principal and Teachers assured in continuing these discussions and activities beyond Vigilance week, striving to instil a lasting culture of integrity among students.(KNS).
